Post #1.  Always sort of exciting.  It's the intro to the whole blog really.  Not that I expect to have any readers right now but it's still a very important post nonetheless.  So what do I want to write about today?  Well maybe I should do sort of an intro and do my real post in post #2.  What is my blog about?  Here goes.  Maybe this will pique some interest, maybe it won't.

Me.  Abby.  I have recently discovered some lifestyle changes that I need to make for the better of my health.  I'm reluctant to post my weight at this time, but it's high.  I'm down 14lb since the beginning of January thanks to my discoveries.  I have discovered I have Hashimoto's Thyroidism which means I'm intolerant to gluten.  This point will come later.  My other discovery:  I'm a contender to have Gastric Bypass Surgery.  This is not something I am sharing with very many people right now so it's quite hard to actually put it out to the world.  For this I am grateful for not having any readers at the moment.  Maybe by the time I do, I'll be able to post my weight and my surgery will have been done already.

Point #1 - Gluten Intolerance.  A very lovely friend of mine, after hearing of the results of my dr's appointment at a play date, let me know that she's reading a book called "Grain Brain".  She noticed a point that said that Hashimoto's Disease is a sign of gluten intolerance.  Since that day I have cut out all bread and gluten products.  I still find it hiding in silly places like soy sauce and salad dressing but I'm trying and working hard at it.  This new gluten free/Paleo lifestyle I've recently adopted is the inspiration for my blog.  Also I thought it would be fun to blog about my surgery adventures.

Point #2 - Gastric Bypass Surgery.  In October of 2012, just past my 30th birthday, I had my gallbladder removed.  My gallbladder surgeon, Dr. C, ordered a few tests to determine my route and risk for surgery.  During one of my appointments he asked if I would be insulted if he suggested bariatric surgery.  He said that my ultrasound showed that my insides are quite tiny (in his words) and with my age and the age of my children, at the time 2 and 4, he wants to see me skinnier.  He said it would make such a huge difference for my life span, for my children and for my health.  I was not offended whatsoever.  I was quite flattered that he cared about me and my family enough to think about this.  He said one of the surgeons is his friend and he will put in a recommendation for me.  I was told last year that it was a 3 year waiting period.  I've sort of forgot about the whole process in the last while and a couple of weeks ago when I was at said playdate from Point #1, I took a peek at my phone and I had a voicemail.  I thought hmmm ok I'll take a listen.  It was the wellness center that books all the appointments for the pre-surgery stuff!!!!  I screamed and cried I was that excited.  Then I politely excused myself (after a slight explanation) to my friend's bathroom to call my husband.  He's pretty excited too.

That's pretty much all of my blog-spiration.  I have so much more than I can go into, but, hey, that's why I started a blog, right?  So I can expand on my stories.  I have lots of recipes and cooking experiences to share and I HAVE to share about my new activity tracker.  It is my absolute favorite gadget in the entire world!!!  I'll get on that tomorrow.  After I make paleo turkey meatballs at 6am :)  Thanks for reading....whoever does!
